On July 13, 1915, an announcement was posted on the walls of houses in the Armenian villages of the Sudean region of Cilicia, ordering them to be ready to leave for Mesopotamia, the Der-Zor desert, in 8 days, where the non-Muslim population was supposedly to be resettled. In response to the order of the Turkish government, every resident of Musa Dagh and 5 neighboring villages decided to organize a defense on the top of Musa Dagh. Men and women, old people and children, leaving their homes, climbed the mountain, taking only a rifle, gunpowder, bullets, food and water. The regular army of the attacking enemy is defeated, and the Turkish command, enraged by this, calls the entire Muslim population of the nearby villages to arms. Cutting off the Musa Dagh people from the outside world on the land side, they decide to starve them to death, on the other side is the steep cliff and the sea.
The Armenians begin to seek salvation by sea.
On the 53rd day of the resistance, on September 12, 1915, on Sunday morning, the French warship Guichen is seen. Several Musa Dagh people swim towards the ship. The captain reports the Armenians' request for help to the squadron commander. Soon the warship Joan of Arc approaches the shore, accompanied by other patrol boats. The Musa Dagh rebels with their families, a total of 4,058 people, board the ship and are saved.
