Gaspare Dori is a famous contemporary Italian playwright. His plays have won prestigious awards. «The Long Journey of Elephants» is a play about how people are connected to each other in this life and, possibly, after it. The play talks about respect, patience and mutual understanding. It is a psychological drama, although it can be called both a detective and a thriller.
There are two different episodes on the stage, which at first glance seem unrelated, but then their connection becomes obvious. The heroes, both in life and after death, try to escape not only from the trap prepared for them by life, but also from death. One of the heroes, who loves elephants, says: «Elephants are distinguished by their kindness and wisdom. They feel great both in a group and alone. This is one of the most confused animals on earth. A group of elephants is not a herd, but more. It is like a small community. And one day they leave, leaving their territory. And no one knows where they are going. No one knows why they made such a decision. No one knows their purpose.» This is what people are like.
